there are few things as painful as discovering that you bring nothing but discomfort to those you desperately wish to be needed by.

that covetousness in itself, should it be apparent, is enough to cause discomfort, but they say that love is blind. so it follows that a twisted misinterpretation called “love” is utterly oblivious. but it can sustain a person, as any hope, any glimmering speck of light can.

but when that delusion is shattered, there’s little left to love about life. she found that out the hard way. she had hoped her touch brought him comfort, but instead it drew his shoulders tense and put kinks in his spine.

his courteousness was just a distinct lack of rudeness - lest he break her poor little heart. affection is a tricky thing. ignorance is bliss, but when faith is put in it, it turns deadly, toxic.

she got under his skin in all the wrong ways.

it all built up like a snowball, cascading down mountains of sorrow, adding more to its mass with a featureless face, reigning down with an ominous presence on half-suspecting bystanders below.

such was her bitterness, her anger, her malice, her jealousy. it started as a marble but grew to consume her, become her, envelop all her thoughts and actions because that’s how these things go. a little purity of heart goes a long way but there was poison in her blood and she coughed up her own decency before falling asleep each night.

her heart couldn’t take it; she’d shrivel up and die.

Striking Self Portraits by Kyle Thompson

Thompson takes self-portraits up a notch with his surreal and stunningly eerie style. Unafraid to take risks, he creates photos that are shocking. Almost more shocking is that he’s a pizza delivery man who took up photography only about a year ago. Look through his 365 project (he’s currently at day 155) and you’ll notice how his style and technique has quickly started to evolve.

one of the closest guarded yet plainly obvious secrets of our time is that art does not have to be intellectual. a little pretension goes a long way. it’s all about what feelings someone can bring about in someone else through the specific arrangement of something. it doesn’t matter what that something is.

einstein didn’t make pop art and the beatles didn’t exactly change the way people thought about things. well, not at first anyway. but einstein was turned into pop art and the beatles have become an inspiration for some of the most heavy-handed art there is. because it’s all about the connection you draw.

we’re human. we don’t have to be geniuses. we shouldn’t want to be.

a little emotional trigger is all we need.

so put the barrel up to your head and spread some knowledge.

she scraped away at his bones, metal tools chipping gathered dirt and crystallized memories off of those off-white things. she was making him simpler, more beautiful, less a person and more a basic human being. she turned his skull towards her and ran her finger along his cheek bone, cooing soothing words to a tense boy as he felt his humanity being stripped from his skeleton.

in many ways, it was liberating. his limbs felt lighter; his ribcage lost the weight bearing down on his organs. lighter than air. he’d spread his wings and soar

if he had them. but his mind was trapped in his skill and his heart was trapped in its (rib)cage. and his body was bound to this dentist’s chair, a pretty and seemingly inexperienced young thing absentmindedly and periodically throwing out canned and yet somehow genuine comforts from her lips.

he started to wonder if this is how ancient sculptures felt when they felt their figures spring forth from the rock.

the girl was no artist, but did that necessarily mean he was no work of art?
